I don't know if I titled this correctly, but what I'm looking to do is write something that watches for a globally defined or environment variable defined by XaMpD that when a the now playing artist/title changes, I could trigger a process to start recoding the stream for example. Or when my trigger list is hit, the record process kicks in.

Make sense? I understand that the recording process is "frowned upon", but if you just set some variables, what we do with them is our responsibility right? Kind of like this... isn't it legal to own cable descrambler equipment, but it is illegal to use them to steal cable programming illegally.
